FIVE potential landing spots for Adam Doueihi

The half is off-contract at the end of 2024.

We are drawing ever closer to the beginning of the 2024 season.

Although we're yet to even see a team names for the first set of official trials, teams are looking toward their 2025 rosters.

There is literally millions of dollars worth of NRL talent off-contract and able to discuss their futures for 2025 and beyond.

One such player is the extremely talented Adam Doueihi.

Despite enjoying a level of success with the Tigers, I get the feeling it is time to move on for the five-eighth turned centre turned five-eighth again.

I have no doubt in the world that there will be a host of clubs looking at the 25 year-old.

Below are five very possible potential landing destinations for Adam Doueihi.

I don't see re-signing with the Tigers as an option. He has previously expressed frustrations with his role within the club while I believe the Tigers need to move also.

St George Illawarra Dragons

Let's be frank here. The Dragons are going to be linked with every player who comes off contract. Doueihi is no different.

I am not sold on Kyle Flanagan at six. The NRL future of Junior Amone is up in the air and looks to include at least a 12 month enforced layoff.

Doueihi could potentially partner Ben Hunt in the halves. That said, Hunt himself is hardly showing signs of extreme dedication and could be on the way out.

Zac Lomax has supposedly been promised a chance to shine in the fullback role, opening up a potential spot if Doueihi is set to make that move permanently.

Either that or they sign him as a specialist 14, something they absolutely don't have. At least to his quality.

A fully fit Doueihi walks into this Dragons side. It's just a matter of how best to utilise him.

Shane Flanagan is a smart operator and he loves a bargain. Doueihi would have to be very realistic with his demands if this were to happen as the former Sharks Premiership winner isn't know for paying 'overs'.

Doueihi has a lot of talent but I'd argue he has equally as much to prove.

A move to the Red V could provide him with the opportunity he needs. This could be a marriage made in heaven if everything lines up.

Melbourne Storm

Please stop me if you've heard this story before.

Rugby League player A shows signs of ability but never truly reaches his potential.

Player A moves to Melbourne and becomes a rep quality talent, making previous club's fans very angry.

Adam Doueihi has all the talent to go to Melbourne and become a class centre. Whether that be under Bellamy or one of his likely successors in Cam Smith or Billy Slater.

Doueihi would have to park any hopes of regularly playing in the halves, at least in the short term, but the opportunity to run out at centre for the Storm has to be an appealing one.

Much like with the Dragons, there's a likelihood that he'll have to take a pay cut than what he is currently on.

You'd have to imagine that the chance to rebuild a career that has been stalled due to injury in one of the game's best systems may be worth every missed dollar.

Newcastle Knights

Despite the incredible success enjoyed by the Knights last season, I'm still not entirely convinced that the club has nailed on their long-term spine.

Jack Cogger is an excellent addition and should push for a spot in the six or seven, but even with his signing the club may look for further moves.

Doueihi could join former Tiger Jackson Hastings in the running for one of the halves positions from '25 onwards.

Or he could move wide and fight for a centre spot beside Bradman Best.

Dane Gagai can't play forever and may even shift to the wing if required to fit a potential Doueihi move.

The Knights have signed well but they haven't replaced Dom Young. Typing that I realise how hard it is to truly replace Dom Young.

Newcastle have plenty of options on their books but no one who currently stands at above the rest. At centre/wing or in the halves.

Keep an eye on this one. I'd guess that there won't be a link, or a need, unless Newcastle falter early.

If they start slow then there may even be a push for an early release for Doueihi to join in mid to late 2024.

Parramatta Eels

At the risk of being very blunt here, the Eels have title contending halves and forwards.

They're backline though, with the greatest of respect, doesn't measure up to the elite sides.

I'm not saying adding Adam Doueihi puts them on par with the Panthers, Broncos etc but I am absolutely saying it improves their two through five.

Much like with the Storm, his days as a full-time number six would be temporarily over, but there is undoubtedly a spot in that backline for Doueihi.

Whether or not he'd be willing to make the short trip to join a rival club is up for debate but, selfishly, it would be a super storyline to add to future clashes.

This may be another watch and wait situation. If Penisi, Asi and co hit the ground running, there may be no need to act.

That said, if they start slow, and the Eels depth out wide is not great, they too could be an option for an early switch.

English Super League

As we're seeing more and more these days, young players see the ESL as a genuine option.

Doueihi is still very much in his athletic price. He would tear it up in England, for whichever club he landed at.

We've seen Brodie Croft, Bevan French and Jai Field become superstars in the motherland and I have no doubt Doueihi could very much follow suit.

Matt Moylan recently made the trip and had a try and a try assist from six touches this past weekend.

Doueihi could very realistically set the competition alight and either settle in for a brilliant career in England or use it as a launching pad back into the NRL playmaking scene.

English clubs re-setting their system with a young Aussie half with a lot to prove. It's proven a winning formula recently for both player and club(s).

It's a huge move, especially so early in his career but it could be one that sets him up for the rest of his sporting life.
