Every NRL team’s contract list for 2023: Top 30 and development players

Pre-season training is kicking off around the competition, so here is every currently signed player.

A majority of NRL roster spots have been filled, and teams - minus their Rugby League World Cup players - are returning for pre-season.

The first-ever Dolphins' training session has been held on Monday, while most bottom-eight clubs were also back on deck.

The NRL season is expected to begin on the first weekend in March, leaving just four months for players to train and, for those limited to development or train and trial contracts, push for upgrades.

Zero Tackle have compiled the full list of every contracted player in the NRL, even with collective bargaining agreements continuing in the background, with the status of every squad now clear.

Note: Some development contracts may not be included.
Squads are correct as of 1pm (AEDT), November 7.

Brisbane Broncos

The Broncos have just two spots remaining on their Top 30 roster for 2023, and one of those could well go to development player Xavier Willison, who has been impressive in limited opportunity.

Number of development players: 2

Canberra Raiders

The Raiders have handed three development contracts to local juniors JJ Clarkson, Zane Dunford and Ethan Strange, while Adrian Trevilyan and Clay Webb have been added to the Top 30, but have otherwise only added Pasami Saulo from outside the club. They only have a single spot left, but it's believed that is going the way of Danny Levi.

Number of contracted players: 29
Number of development players: 4

Gains
Pasami Saulo (Newcastle Knights)

Canterbury Bulldogs

The Bulldogs still have five roster spots available, although it's believed the club don't have a great deal of salary cap space to play with, so won't be able to open the chequebook for any key talents left, and instead may focus on internal promotions. They are believed to have Josh Reynolds, as well as World Cup players in Lebanon utility Khaled Rajab and Irish half Bailey Hayward on train and trial deals.

Number of contracted players: 25
Number of development players: 3

With the recent promotion of Siteni Taukamo into the top group at the Sharks, as well as the earlier ones of Thomas Hazelton and Jesse Colquhoun, the men from the Shire have no roster spots remaining for next season.

Number of contracted players: 30
Number of development players: 1

Development players
Joshua Finau

Gold Coast Titans

The Titans still have five spots up their sleeve for the 2023 campaign, and while Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui and Ryan Foran will join their top squad for 2024, it's unlikely either player will be given a promotion for 2023. Tony Francis is potentially the most likely, while former Cowboys' prop Emry Pere is believed to be on a train and trial deal at the club.

Number of contracted players: 25
Number of development players: 4

Manly Sea Eagles

The Sea Eagles are another club with five roster spots remaining open for the 2023 season. Nathaniel Roache headlines their train and trialists, while Jamie Humphreys and Jacob Sykes could both be pushing for an upgrade with a strong pre-season.

Newcastle Knights

The Knights have more work to do than any other team ahead of the 2023 season with seven spots still available in their Top 30, although under NRL rules, 24 players must be contracted by today - so it could be assumed the club will make an announcement on at least one player this week.

Number of contracted players: 23
Number of development players: 2

Gains
Adam Elliott (Canberra Raiders), Tyson Gamble (Brisbane Broncos), Jack Hetherington (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs)

Losses

Development players
Krystian Mapapalangi, Chris Vea'ila

New Zealand Warriors

The Warriors have been one of the busier clubs when it comes to recruitment this off-season, with a long list of players exiting the club, and seven players signing on so far. That has left them with just a single spot left for the new season.

Number of contracted players: 29
Number of development players: 2

Gains
Mitch Barnett (Newcastle Knights), Jackson Ford (St George Illawarra Dragons), Te Maire Martin (Brisbane Broncos), Luke Metcalf (Cronulla Sharks), Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (Canberra Raiders), Marata Niukore (Parramatta Eels), Dylan Walker (Manly Sea Eagles)

The Cowboys are yet to confirm their development contracts.

Outside of that, the Cowboys have a relatively settled squad. A couple of moving parts exist, including the exits of Tom Gilbert and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, but it's hardly alarm bells with only a single spot remaining for the 2023 campaign.
