After being told by Warriors coach Stephen Kearney that he would not be required at Mount Smart Stadium beyond the 2019 season, the proverbial curtains were being drawn on Isaac Luke's career.
However, the former Rabbitoh is set to be offered a career lifeline, with The Daily Telegraph reporting that the St George Illawarra Dragons are set to offer the thirty-seven capped New Zealand international a cut-priced one-year deal to back up Dragons stalwart Cameron McInnes.
With McInnes suffering a broken leg in the second last game of the season and promising youngster Reece Robson heading to North Queensland on a four-year deal, the Red V is in desperate need of a hooker to back-up the increasingly impressive McInnes.
Having finished up his inconsistent four-year spell at the Warriors after grooming McInness to be the heir to his throne at Redfern, the shoes could well and truly be on the other foot if the deal does eventuate, with McInnes' position and standing within the Dragons now unquestionable after a bumper 2019 season.
While the 271-game NRL veteran Luke has previously been linked with Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers, The Daily Telegraph reports that the red and whites are set to win the race for Luke's signature.
