New details have emerged surrounding Clint Gutherson's three-year deal worth an estimated $2.3 million, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.

It is understood that the 24-year old has a will receive a bonus in his deal, taking his annual salary up to $750,000.

The Eels were forced to pay a number of sweeteners to retain their man, including a $50,000 signing bonus, a car and the possibility of an extra $350,000 in State of Origin bonuses.

Should Gutherson be picked by the injury-riddled Blues, his contract would increase $50,000 a year. He is eligible for such bonuses in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

It is being reported that it is the same deal that Gutherson's management tabled the Eels late last year.

  1. a) Thought โ€œweโ€ had finally moved on.
    b) Everything reported previously was oh, so accurate.
    c) Surely there are some other players renegotiating contractsโ€ฆ

  2. It start by stating the bonuses total up to 750,000, and says he has bonuses of 50,000 per every State of O game starting from next year. So realistic if you take off 150,000 for those games heโ€™s really only getting 600k with the chance of bonuses.
Realistically without injuries he would be the 3 or 4th choice fullback behind Tedesco, Trjborjevic, and then he still competes with Moylan, Johnson, and Dufty. As for centres heโ€™s behind Mitchell, Roberts and has to compete with Ramien, Xerri, Scott, Bird, Aiken, Peachey and many others who actually play in the centres regularly.
So itโ€™s actually a pretty safe deal for the Eels. 600k + incentives/bonuses, for someone who is a fan favourite, captain and really good on his day.

  3. If Roberts was available right now & said heโ€™d like to play for Parramatta? Parramatta would sign him up straight away.
If they had the money to spare? As that deal above , looks a pretty hefty one.
