James Maloney is apparently considering a Super League switch as soon as next season, a decision that the Panthers have a plan in place should it eventuate.

Maloney has made his intention to retire overseas clear in the past, a loss Penrth and teammate Nathan Cleary are confident they can overcome.

"Jimmy has openly spoken about he'd like to finish his career over there," Cleary told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"It's just one of those things, if it happens it happens."

"He's definitely left a mark on this club and this team with the knowledge he brings and his leadership. He would say himself it's developed the last two years, especially around so many young boys. We've been really lucky to have Jimmy here."

The Panthers have the 22-year-old Jarome Luai ready in waiting to replace Maloney in the wings.

However, he is very accommodating to his club at the moment and following his Origin victory, expressed his desire to play for the Panthers this week in the wake of Cleary's injured ankle. This would allow him an extra week to rest.

Penrith face St. George tomorrow on the backs of their six-game winning streak.
