Sam Burgess is set to face court as his father-in-law Mitchell Hooke seeks an apprehended violence order from the NSW police, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
A recent altercation between the pair took place when Burgess was at Hooke's Bowral home visiting his family. Hooke asked Burgess to leave his property and police were called onto the scene.
"Police are investigating an incident at a property near Bowral shortly after 5pm yesterday," a police spokesperson told The Sydney Morning Herald.
Burgess is set to appear in court on November 6 as Hooke seeks a permanent AVO.
It comes after the Englishman's marriage breakdown with his partner Phoebe, recently splitting with her for a second time.
Burgess has also been in the headlines after an ongoing shoulder issue has led to calls for his retirement.
But Souths teammate Damien Cook is confident he will be lining up with him in round one next season.
"I haven't spoken to him for a week or so but the shoulder just needs rest," Cook said at the Kangaroos' Wollongong hotel on Sunday afternoon.
"Sam is probably someone who has probably brought himself back a couple of times early because we needed him back on the field to help us get to the finals. Now he just needs real good rest."
The star hooker was hopeful that Burgess would not need to prematurely hang up the boots, but added that his long-term health is paramount.
"Hopefully he is looking after his shoulder and we just want to make sure, first and foremost, his health is there. You don't want any permanent damage to any player after their career," Cook said.
"Sam has given his whole body to the game and so much to the game so we have to make sure he looks after himself first. I have no doubt he will be playing next year."
