It may only be Round 3, but several NRL clubs have been hit with injuries and suspensions to star players, while another coach has decided to axe a star halfback after two consecutive losses.

In what seems like a playmaker's curse, Adam Reynolds, Cameron Munster, Josh Schuster, Jayden Sullivan, Lachlan Ilias, Luke Keary, and Jahrome Hughes may all be absent this round.

Teams will be named on Tuesday at 4pm (AEST), but here is all the latest in news and rumours.

Penrith Panthers vs Brisbane Broncos

Penrith Panthers

The reigning premiers will be without 2023 Golden Boot winner James Fisher-Harris this week after he sustained a shoulder injury during their game against the Eels. Although it doesn't seem serious, he is expected to be out for this week.

In his place, the Panthers could select either Lindsay Smith or Liam Henry, which would free up a spot on the interchange bench. Daine Laurie should also keep his spot on the team despite playing limited minutes last week.

Projected Round 3 Team: 1. Dylan Edwards 2. Sunia Turuva 3. Izack Tago 4. Taylan May 5. Brian To'o 6. Jarome Luai 7. Nathan Cleary 8. Moses Leota 9. Mitch Kenny 10. Lindsay Smith 11. Scott Sorensen 12. Liam Martin 13. Isaah Yeo 14. Daine Laurie 15. Mavrik Geyer 16. Luke Garner 17. Liam Henry

Brisbane Broncos

The Broncos are facing a double blow for the Grand Final rematch, with Adam Reynolds ruled out and Payne Haas carrying a minor knee injury.

The loss of Reynolds will likely see Jock Madden enter the halves. However, Kevin Walters could also choose from the likes of Coby Black, Blake Mozer or Tristan Sailor if he decides to go another way.

The Warriors should welcome back hooker Wayde Egan this week, shifting newly re-signed hooker Freddy Lussick to the bench. Forward Marata Niukore may also return but it's hard seeing him push anyone out of the team with no injuries.

Projected Round 3 Team: 1. Taine Tuaupiki 2. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 3. Rocco Berry 4. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 5. Marcelo Montoya 6. Luke Metcalf 7. Shaun Johnson 8. Addin Fonua-Blake 9. The Roosters have suffered a massive blow, with Luke Keary ruled out of the match after failing a HIA. In his absence, a combination of new halves, consisting of Sandon Smith and Sam Walker, will be seen, per News Corp.

With Smith playing the utility role of the bench, this could be given to Connor Watson. Angus Crichton had an outstanding performance in the NSW Cup and was easily the best player on the ground, so a call-up is imminent for him.

Projected Round 3 Team: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou  3. Joseph Manu 4. Joseph Suaalii 5. Dominic Young 6. After Poasa Faamausili failed an HIA, the Bulldogs will need a replacement for him in the starting front row. The Daily Telegraph understands this will likely go to either Samuel Hughes or Josh Curran.

Faamausili's injury also frees up a spot on the interchange bench, which will either go to Liam Knight or Kitione Kautoga.

Winger Josh Addo-Carr will return from injury and will either enter the team in favour of Blake Wilson or Connor Tracey. If it is the latter, Jacob Kiraz will push back into the centres.
