The Gold Coast Titans are delighted to announce that halfback Ashley Taylor, a contender for the Dally Mย rookie of the year award, has agreed to extend his contract to include the 2018 season.

The 21-year-old signed a yearโ€™s extension today on the eve of the clubโ€™s awards night at the QT Hotel with the highlight being the announcement of the Paul Broughton Medal as the player of the year.

Taylor had an outstanding first season with the club, playing in 22 games, and scoring 73 points from five tries, 26 goals and a match-winning golden point field goal against South Sydney.

โ€œItโ€™s great news for the club and another crucial piece in establishing a bright future for the Titans,โ€ said head coach Neil Henry.

โ€œIโ€™m very pleased personally to know Ash will be with us for at least the next two seasons but itโ€™s great for the Titans fans particularly as they can see a very good nucleus of a team for the future coming together. Ash has developed a great rapport with our members and fans.

โ€œIt means the club has great depth in halves with Ash, Kane Elgey and Tyrone Roberts as well who also had a very good first season with the Titans.

โ€œNot only has Ash worked hard on the field and handled the physical pressure and responsibility of being a young playmaker in a crucial position but he has worked hard for the club off the field in the community, which is a great credit to him.โ€

Taylor said he was excited to know he will be at the club he loves for another two seasons.

โ€œIโ€™m very happy at the club and I want to show the Titans how thankful I am and commit myself for another season,โ€ Taylor said.

โ€œIโ€™m very proud of what I have achieved this year and Iโ€™ve learned a lot in my first season in the NRL, not just on the field but how to prepare and handle the physical side of the weekly grind of the game. I canโ€™t wait to get stuck into pre-season and progress further next season.

โ€œItโ€™s a great club and the playing group is really close and I reckon we can achieve quite a lot in the next two seasons.โ€
