The future of Sharks veteran Josh Dugan hangs in the balance following the development of a new injury.

According toย The Sydney Morning Herald, the 29-year old is battling a chronic knee problem that may require surgery, threatening to end his season before it starts.

Cronulla have been shopping the centre for several months with no takers, largely due to the size of his $800,0000-a-season contract.

His management will meet with Sharks coach John Morris and other club officials on Thursday.

Fox Sports has labelled Thursday's catch up a "crisis meeting", and while Sharks sources didn't go that far, have said it was being held with reason.

Dugan did take to Twitter to vent his thoughts on the story.

When asked by a fan to share his side of the story: Dugan responded: "Not hiding mate, me speaking up isnโ€™t going to put me in a better place," Dugan said. "If I speak up it doesnโ€™t benefit me. Just know the story written today is a load of ... lol."

    Oh, hang on. The Sharks aren’t one of Cardinal Todd Myrtleburg’s darling clubs.

  3. What does a person make out of this latest report? At the end of the day, if a club is interested in signing Dugan, they are taking a risk. I can’t see any NRL club paying him his current salary, and this situation could eventually force him out of the NRL competition, and it might come down to a Super League club to rescue his career.

    On his day Duges is a great player, but unfortunately for him injuries have interrupted his career too much and I don’t think he’s ever reached his full potential.

  5. Ahhh so now the Sharks are trying the old bunnies ploy.
    Can’t offload them so make up a bogus new injury that in reality is a pre existing injury.
    Greenburg helped them win their first title so will probably help them get this done to.

  7. If the Sharks are going to pay the bulk of his salary Iโ€™d be happy to have him back.
    He may add some value but only as a winger.
    Tall and bulky and would be hard too handle bringing the ball back or from dummy half.

  8. According to the Fox article/s Dugan wants to medically retire, and it’s the Sharks that don’t want to try it.
    I can only assume, if that’s actually the case, that Dugan is happy to end his career with a 2 year payout now, and the Sharks don’t think they’d get the cap relief and/or the insurance to cover it, and therefore are looking at other options.
    Other options (potentially) being a termination of contract, in order to get both cap relief and actual dollar savings.
    It’s a shame his career is at this point, potentially ending this way.

    TheMole52 I find the trash bin hilarious. Go to the dashboard on the left hand side that looks like a taco gaige next to the plus sign on the top left hand side of the screen. Tap on that then tap on dashboard. Screen down and you can tap on Trash etc. To go back tap on the home which looks like a house.

    I will give you a demo of a persons trash, less the words that got them trashed.

    Looks like I was proven to be exactly right. With the claims that your club was definitely out looking to poach another centre.
    They found Dugan was not a good proposition, due to the dodgy knee.
    So they then looked to Josh Morris. Cronulla wonโ€™t release him.
    Where to next?
    Looks like your the only character who belongs under the big top chookstir. Or some nice water colours for your canvas, instead of coloured pencils perhaps?
