Canterbury are targeting English Super League duo Luke Thompson and Alex Walmsley, according toย The Daily Telegraph.ย

The St Helens pair are coming off big performances in last week's 26-6 win over Salford in the Super League grand final at Old Trafford.

Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill has secretly flown to England to begin negotiations with them as they prepare for Great Britain's Tests against New Zealand, Tonga and PNG next month.

Canterbury would not confirm that Hill was overseas, however, he was reportedly spotted in Merseyside on Tuesday.

Thompson and Walmsley are both under contract for next season, meaning the earliest they could make the move to the NRL is 2021.

Hill is due to return to Australia on Thursday and could not be contacted in England.

As many as six NRL clubs are believed top have interest Thompson, who is regarded as the best emerging front-rower in England.

  1. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Thompson and he would be a perfect replacement for Tolman because he’s on his last year in his contract and he will probably retire at the end of next season. It’s a known fact that English forwards kill it in the NRL so I hope he comes along. I don’t think there is any room for Walmsley as Napa is there and the bench will already have Ogden and To’omaga, both deserve to be there every week

  2. Canterbury finished off 2020 with a bang winning against many top eight teams, if they could secure Thomsons signuture they will be top eight material for certain next season. But they also would have to pay a transfer fee for 2020.

Souths sent Bennett over to England mid season trying to sign Thompson but the Transit buying club could not entice the super prop to the clulbless team.
Bennett however did not come back empty handed, buying the 35 year old slow vetran washed up centre Goodwin.

  3. am sure the chickens could sign him, keep latrell and hell get Wighton if they so choose… THEY MANAGE THEIR CAP BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE… everyone else is just jealous…..

  4. Your typical South fan silly comment points to you being exactly what you described. Now grow up, only imuture adults and little children suffer from jealousy. Get over it.

The Sydney Roosters knocked all the confidence out of Souths in the 30-6 massive semi defeat. In effect the Roosters ended Souths season two years back to back.
