Mitchell Aubusson, the premiership-winning captain of the Sydney Roosters, has decided to run it back at least one more time.

Aubusson has played every game of his 13-season first-grade career for the club and is the third most-capped Rooster ever, behind only Luke Ricketson and Anthony Minichiello.

The 31-year-old signed a contract extension on Monday that will see him stay with the Foundation Club through the end of the 2020 season.

Trent Robinson, coach of the reigning premiers, says that Aubusson, โ€œembodies what it means to be a Rooster,โ€ and praised him for his leadership โ€œboth on and off the field.โ€

By returning, Aubusson will have the chance to add to his two premiership wins in 2013 and 2018.ย  The Roosters are currently sitting in second place behind their 2018 Grand Final opponents, the Melbourne Storm.

While this is surely a drawcard, Aubusson says that this is bigger than football.

โ€œMy heart is with the Sydney Roosters. Iโ€™m a Rooster through and through, and everyone whoโ€™s a part of this Club means the world to me," Aubusson told the club's website.

โ€œThereโ€™s a strong bond among the group here, and Iโ€™m really proud to know that Iโ€™ll have the honour of wearing the Roosters jersey for another year."

  1. Yep… a great loyal clubman, rewarded by a club that nurtured his skills as a kid… A great junior delopment scheme envied by the well equipped NRL clubs., those that have their own clubhouse and ground close proximity to their juniors.
Well done Aubo, our go to man… Mr Dependable

  2. Hard to argue with any of these sentiments about a great player, but EdwardWoodWood1, or Woodduck you are still a Richard Cranium, of the highest proportion!

  3. Love how you get on here and have conversations between all your aliases and talk to yourself. Your such a loser, clearly an unemployed, Gooster virgin fan with nothing better to do. Howโ€™s your bff ?? Did you congratulate her after the bunker got them home in yesterdayโ€™s derby??

  4. All round good bloke on and off the field role model. Not an ounce of grub in him. Without injury will break club game record.
Club captain and 3 time clubman of the year. Glad to see him get one for the road he deserves it.

  5. Well, if he announced his retirement this year Souths could have given him the same farewell Minejello and SBW were handed in 2014.

  6. I hear in his off field role the players call Aubusson Captain Bimmington amongst themselves.
Then you have Gomer Pyle Cordner and Mr Potato Head Robinson.
