The feud between Phil Rothfield and James Maloney continues to develop after the Penrith veteran had a go at the News Corp journalist on Twitter.

Maloney was unhappy with claims from Rothfield that he was unhappy, giving off bad body language and was destined to leave the NRL to finish his career in the English Super League.

And Rothfield has fired back at Maloney for questioning his journalism ethics.

โ€œIt was the night before the game, I didnโ€™t want to disturb him so I rang his manager Wayne Beavis,โ€ Rothfield told NRL 360.

โ€œI said he doesnโ€™t look happy, heโ€™s not talking happy at pressers, heโ€™s not playing happy ... and Wayne Beavis said thatโ€™s a fair observation, but heโ€™s not happy because heโ€™s not winning.

โ€œI didnโ€™t say in any part of the copy that heโ€™s dirty at not being the captain. Jimmyโ€™s taken it the wrong way.

โ€œI think heโ€™s a great player, but I think he needs a phone call from Freddy (NSW coach Brad Fittler) like he did last year to lift himself for Origin.โ€

  2. As much as I don’t like Dugan and fafita, if greenburg sides with the dodgy media again, instead of our nrl players, I will be livid.

  5. Rothfield is the worst journalist in RL by far. In the race for the bottom heโ€™s further out in front than Bernborough.
    Surely no-one takes any notice of anything he says except for amusement. Apart from reporting a bit of gossip, which any idiot could do, he shows not a jot of insight or meaningful analysis.
