Panthers winger Tyrone Phillips has decided to quit the Penrith club, effective immediately.

Phillips was one of three Penrith players caught up in the sex scandal that embroiled the club during the offseason.

Phillips was then charged with drink driving last Sunday which seems to be the catalyst for his decision to resign from the club.

"Tyrone Phillips made the decision to resign from the Panthers effective immediately," Panthers boss Phil Gould said on Nineโ€™s 100% Footy.

"Itโ€™s been a difficult time of late and the latest thing on the weekend wasnโ€™t good enough."

The club has also released a statement confirming Phillip's decision to quit.

Read the statement below:

Panthers Group CEO Brian Fletcher has confirmed Tyrone Phillips today tendered his resignation from his playing contract with the club.

His notice of resignation was accepted with immediate effect.

Panthers wishes Tyrone all the best with his future endeavours.
