Ben Barba is set fight his lifetime NRL ban, as reported by the The Australian.
The 26-year old was sacked by North Queensland and exiled from the league after being charged with two counts of public nuisance on Australia Day. He is set to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on March 22.
The troubled star escaped domestic violence charges as his partner did file a complaint.
Barba's lawyer Campbell MacCallum revealed his client's intentions to return to the game on Tuesday.
โHeโs expressed his desire to play football this year. He wants to explore his options in relation to challenging the NRL ban and hopefully play rugby league in some capacity,โ MacCallum told Theย Australian.
โI donโt think heโd play NRL but certainly local football. Thatโs going to help his focus.
โHeโs feeling the pressure of the media on him โ heโs also feeling the pressure of not being able to play the game he loves. Itโs certainly pretty distressing for himself and a trying time for his family.โ
North Queensland welfare have remained in contact with Barba throughout this period, however, coach Paul Green was coy when asked if the former Dally M medallist should play again.
โItโs probably not for me to comment,โ Green said.

It is nothing about bias but rather how the system works.
In QLD there is no such thing as a charge of domestic violence. You can be charged for breaching an existing DV order by committing an act of DV, So technically you are charged for breaching the order and not the actual act of violence itself. This charge is a Regina offence so you so not need a complainant to proceed but you do need an existing DV order in place.
What people call a Domestic Violence offence are usually things like Assault and wilful damage etc. These offences are NOT Regina offences and therefore need a complainant to proceed.
So if Barba DOES NOT have a current existing DV Order with his partner AND she refuses to make a complaint of assault etc, the best police can do is apply for a Domestic and Family Violence Protection Order and charge him for other Regina offences like Public Nuisance, Disorderly etc.
The only good news is, that once this order is in place AND it is breached, the grub has a really good chance of doing decent time, depending on the seriousness. In fact there is mandatory sentencing procedures in place.
The system is rubbish but it is what it is.

NSW has the same system as QLD. The only difference is they call their orders AVO not DVO.
