Hooker James Segeyaro will wear the Cronulla Sharks jersey in 2019 after agreeing to terms on a new one-year deal.

Segeyaro played 26 of the Sharks 27 matches last year and in two seasons at the club has totalled 38 games.

Game time might be limited this season though with Brailey brothers, Jayden and Blayke, likely to get the majority of the minutes at hooker.

"He had opportunity to go to other clubs but he wanted to pull on our jersey again, to play with you boys and to play with the Sharks," Sharks head coach John Morris said on the club website.

"He will add some depth to that position for us this year."

  1. Just wondering where the money is coming from ? Ignoring the fact that they are broke and gave 10 of their staff a nice present for Christmas, they do have quite a few big dollar players.

Johnson won’t have been cheap and Gallen will probably write his own pay cheque then they have Moylan, Dugan, Morris, Johnson, Townsend and Fifita plus others.

Cannot be a lot left in those coffers

  2. What I would like to know is how a team who is under investigation for cheating the cap is allowed to make any signings.

  3. We have lost Lewis, Lee, Ramien,Dillon, Paulo, Leutele, Hodkinson and a couple of low paid players and VAL HOLMES and signed Johnson and Morris and we have only brought in lower grade players think we are well under the cap.Gallen is on bugger all mate and has the exemption for being a 1 club player as well. I put it to you Val was on 800000 Lewis was on 600000 that eaisly pays for johnson and morris with leftovers.

  4. A couple of roster spots were left and they are a fair way under the cap for 2019. . If you were keeping an eye on the SC storm in a tea cup you’d be aware that this information was fairly widely known. Part of the benefits of forced transparency and open disclosure when the minor anomaly was self reported I guess. Investigations are just that. Not charges or bans at the time of the signing. Further depth added to an already very deep roster. Good season ahead for the sharkies…….

  5. I reckon that the Sharkies got him cheap. He was doing his best as a barista for Flo and no other clubs either needed him or wanted him. He burnt his chances in the SL so back to the Sharkies.
He’s a good hooker and can tear teams in half at the right time.

  6. Its a tactic that is last player on first player off. When the NRL announce the punishment handed out and they have to free up 400k then Hooker James Segeyaro gets axed and Johnston stays.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜‚

  7. From what I just read this article is correct to the extent that he and the Sharks have signed a contract, but that contract hasn’t, and may not be approved by the NRL, pending their salary cap verdict.
Woody, you may well have hit the nail on the head re your interpretation, although if the NRL hasn’t registered it, I’d expect it won’t count anyway.

  8. Hasn’t the NRL investigation into the Sharks found more discrepancies? If they have found more than the ones they are investigating then how can they afford Johnson, let alone Segeyaro.

  9. Reports this morning suggest that the NRL has found a far bigger SC problem than that which was self reported. Could be big trouble here. What is it with Cronulla ?

  10. I’m sure the NRL aren’t sure themselves. If you believe all reports then Melbourne, the biggest proven Cap cheats, are again over the cap. Investigate them and get them to fully open their books???
