REPORTS: Cartwright to be named Manly’s new coach

Former Titans mentor John Cartwright could be named the Sea Eagles' new head coach as early as this week, as reported by Fox Sports.

Cartwright will take over the top job from wantaway coach Trent Barrett and most recently enjoyed a successful stint at the Gold Coast from 2007-14.

Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans gave Cartwright his backing if named the club's new clipboard holder.

“I’m not sure if anyone internally is going to put in their application but, if that was the case, I’m certainly really happy with the people we have there right now,” skipper Daly Cherry-Evans said on Fox Sports’ League Life.

“John Cartwright’s an assistant and we’ve got a good up and coming young coach in Chad Randall so, look, if those guys were to get the big opportunity, I’d certainly back it.”

Cartwright's appointment was initially reported by the The Daily Telegraph and was made despite the local support for a former Manly coach to be brought back, notably Geoff Toovey.
