There's nothing worse than being kept in the dark regarding a certain topic, and North Queensland Cowboy Lachlan Coote is certainly going through those feelings.

The off-contract premiership winner is yet to hear from the Cowboys regarding their plans for him beyond the 2018 season.

Only three games remain in North Queensland's 2018 campaign, with the fullback believing he will not be offered a new contract for next season.

Coote, 28, is even looking at an overseas move in order to continue his rugby league career as he starts weighing up all options.

Speaking with foxsports.com.au, Coote revealed his frustration behind the clubs indecisions.

โ€œI still havenโ€™t heard from the club at all,โ€ Coote said.

โ€œIt would be awesome to know sooner rather than later with the family Iโ€™ve got now.

โ€œIโ€™ve got two small kids and the wife, the end of the year is quickly coming so it would be good to know now rather than later.

โ€œWeโ€™re pretty settled up here and it would be ideal (to stay) โ€ฆ so it is hard, but whatever happens, happens.

โ€œThatโ€™s footy and thatโ€™s how it works now I guess.โ€

Coote became a Cowboy in 2014 where only a year later, he was a gigantic part in helping the club win its maiden premiership.

2018 hasn't panned out the way Coote would've liked after being plagued with a hamstring injury at the start, then finding himself in and out of the first grade side.

Coote explains he's unsure why he is playing reserve grade for the club but believes it could be as they dont see him as part of their future beyond 2018.

โ€œI think probably going on form I guess, and Iโ€™m coming off contract this year and they havenโ€™t given me any direction yet,โ€ Coote said.

โ€œ(Paul Green) has probably got a mindset of finding some combinations for next year. Thatโ€™s all I can put it down to.โ€

Coote's loyalty to the Cowboys is starting to wear thin as each day that passes without an answer from them increases other clubs interest.

โ€œThereโ€™s a bit of interest out there which is good โ€ฆ Iโ€™m just waiting to hear from the Cowboys and find out where theyโ€™re at,โ€ he said.

โ€œ(Super League) has been on the cards. Iโ€™ve never put that to bed so I always leave the option open.

โ€œObviously itโ€™s a touch move going over there but if I had to do it we would get by.

โ€œThere has been plenty of other footy players with families who have gone over there and enjoyed themselves.โ€
