Eels coach backs Corey Norman in midst of trade rumours

Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur has dismissed rumours that the team is preparing to see Corey Norman leave for a team elsewhere.

Norman has been involved in some controversy this season, he was caught drinking while injured earlier this season which breaches team policy and was fined $20,000 earlier this week for the offence.

There have been murmurs that the Eels are running out of patience with Norman, but Arthur did not disclose any immediate action that the team is looking to take in regards to Norman's spot on the team.

"It's simple - he's contracted until 2019," Arthur told AAP.

"The same as I'm contracted, the same as 20 other players are."

Norman has a string of convictions with the club, including filming a sexual act and drug use, posting pictures of himself drinking on social media and pleading guilty to drug possession.

"He's in good spirits. We're proud of him, he's accepted full responsibility for his actions," Arthur explained.

"There's always things that get speculated when you're losing... if we weren't losing, there'd be no speculation.

"Look, he made a mistake, he's put his hand up, he's taken ownership and responsibility for it and now it's time for us to move forward."

The 27-year-old will miss this Saturday's match against Newcastle with a footy injury.
