The nib Newcastle Knights have appointed Jamie Buhrer and Mitchell Pearce as co-captains for 2018, which was announced at the Corporate Season Launch on Friday evening.

Coach Nathan Brown believes appointing the duo is the best fit for the club.

โ€œJamie is someone that sets the standards and someone that challenges other people to do the right thing and with Mitchellโ€™son-fieldd leadership, that combination is the best way to go,โ€ said Brown.

Buhrer, who has played 144 NRL games, joined the Knights in 2017 and midway through the season was named co-captain alongside Sione Mataโ€™utia.

โ€œJamie was captain last year and heโ€™s highly regarded amongst the group,โ€ Brown commented.

โ€œHeโ€™s very well respected, the players follow him, he sets great standards and he challenges others to get those standards.

โ€œJamie certainly did a great job last year with Sione.โ€

It will be Pearceโ€™s first season in the red and blue, and the experienced halfback has played a total of 238 NRL matches.

โ€œMitchell is our real on-the-field leader, so we thought that combination works well as Jamie doesnโ€™t play the whole game, all of the time,โ€ stated Brown.

โ€œAs a whole we feel like weโ€™ve got a lot more depth in our leadership now.โ€
