The Newcastle Knights have confirmed a number of players who won't be returning to the club in 2018.
It's well known that Dane Gagai has signed with the South Sydney Rabbitohs next season, along with the departures of Tyler Randell (Wakefield Trinity), Mickey Paea (Hull FC) and Joe Wardle (Castleford Tigers) all picking up deals clubs in the English Super League.
Veteran Anthony Tupou has announced his retirement after a long career in the NRL, as well as forward Sam Matoara.
Rory Kostjasyn has also been forced to retire after suffering a complex throat injury during a routine pre-season training session in January.
“Retirement was a combination of medical advice and how my body was unable to adapt to a reduced airway,” Kostjasyn explained at the time.
“It has by far been the most challenging six to seven months I've faced, not only in my career but in everyday life.
“Unfortunately, it's a challenge that I've been unable to overcome.”
The Knights have also confirmed the departure of a number of other players via the club website, with Jack Stockwell, Sam Matoara, Pauli Pauli, David Bhana, Josh Starling, Will Pearsall and Jaelen Feeney all not returning next season.
