The Parramatta Eels have confirmed that former hooker Nathan Peats in on the club's radar for next season but have denied rumours of a possible return for Jarryd Hayne.
Parramatta CEO Bernie Gurr spoke to media yesterday following the news that charges against star winger Semi Radradra had been dropped.
Amongst the topics covered he mentioned that Peats was very much still on the radar for the club as they looked to rebuild their playing roster and image following last season's salary cap controversy.
"Nathan Peats has been on the radar for our club as well," Gurr said.
"We're looking at our roster to try to improve it. Nathan's name has been tossed up. At the moment though, we're sitting back and just seeing what our next plan is. We're trying to be very disciplined around our salary cap.
"As you can understand from our history at Parramatta, we need to be very disciplined and have a very good plan in place and we have."
The club is in need of a hooker withย Isaac De Gois' career in doubt after suffering a concussion in the preseason and has yet to play since. Youngster Kaysa Pritchard has been wearing the No.9 jersey so far this season but the club would jump at the chance to re-sign Peats, with him long touted as the future NSW Blues hooker.
While many fans would be keen to see the return of Peats, the rumours of Jarryd Hayne making a return to the club next season have been met with mixed reviews. Gurr also took time to address the issue, stating that the club had given no thought to making a play for the former Eels star.
"At the moment there have been no substantive discussions about Jarryd Hayne returning to the club," Gurr said.
When asked if Hayne's management had approached the club to enquire about a return, Gurr also denied any discussions had been had.
"I've not had an approach," he said.
