Jamayne Isaako pulled off one of the more miraculous single-season turn arounds throughout 2024 when he became the NRL's top try and point-scorer in the same year for the first time in decades.
After multiple years of struggles, at the Brisbane Broncos and then onto the Gold Coast Titans, it appeared Isaako would be battling to gain consistent minutes at the Dolphins under Wayne Bennett.
But instead, he had his best year as an NRL player, kicking goals, scoring tries and barely putting a foot wrong for the NRL's expansion club.
But now the question that plenty will be asking in online sports betting is whether he can repeat the dose in 2024.
Here are the favourites to knock him off the mantle of the NRL's top try-scorer in 2024.
Alex Johnston (South Sydney Rabbitohs)
Johnston has been a try-scoring force for as long as he has been an NRL player, but recent years have seen him almost permanently stamp his name on this award, even in patches where South Sydney have struggled.
2023 may have seen South Sydney collapse dramatically out of the top eight, but Johnston still scored 21 tries in 23 games, following seasons where he scored 30 in 25 and 30 in 22.
He won't quite get to the long-standing try-scoring record of Ken Irvine this year, but should become the first player of the NRL era to cross 200 tries which will be a remarkable achievement in itself.
Dominic Young (Sydney Roosters)
Young has made the move from the Newcastle Knights to the Sydney Roosters for the 2024 season, and on the surface, it's difficult to see how that won't have him showing substantial improvement.
The Englishman stands at two metres tall, and on the end of the Roosters' attack, he should only go to another level as he adds to 25 tries in 25 games throughout the 2023 campaign (which includes two finals games).
The star winger is still young and learning, but the coaching of Trent Robinson, and working with another tall winger in Daniel Tupou have him primed to be the NRL's top try-scorer this year.
Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (New Zealand Warriors)
When it comes to veteran wingers in the NRL, there are few who bring quite as much experience as Warrior Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.
The New Zealand-born flanker has previously played with the Panthers and Bulldogs before making the move to Auckland in 2021, but not prior to 2023 has he come close to 20 tries in a season.
In fact, his previous best year was 12, way back in 2016. But 2023 saw him run on 24 tries at better than one per game, and combined with all the other elements, he was a weapon for the Warriors last year.
Expect him to be at the top of the try-scoring charts again this year.
Josh Addo-Carr (Canterbury Bulldogs)
Addo-Carr is something of a smokey in this conversation, but still worth consideration if the Bulldogs can get anywhere near their potential, and if the veteran winger can stay on the field.
Addo-Carr has 129 tries in 164 NRL games. That is an impressive strike rate to say the least.
For all the talk of him not living up to his promise at the Bulldogs, he has still managed 27 tries in 38 games during his time at Belmore in a club that have finished in the bottom four both seasons.
His time in Melbourne regularly saw him go close to a try per game, and if the Bulldogs are a top-eight force this year, then expect Addo-Carr to be in the mix at the top of this leaderboard.
